OGRIP has expanded the County GIS Profile Survey to include entries from all state and local government entities. The GEOhio Spatial Information Survey provides a mechanism for any State or Local spatial data provider to list their contact information and optionally any of the various methods they have for sharing their spatial data assets. Information provided through this survey will be made available on the GEOhio Spatial Data Discovery Portal. The goal of the Survey is to encourage and enable the creation, publishing, ease of access and use of open geospatial data by a broad audience. You do not have to have an OpenData site or account to use the Survey tool or to have your information registered in the GEOhio Portal.
If you are a data provider with an active OpenData site you can provide a link that will direct users from the GEOhio Portal to your OpenData site.
If you host map services you can provide a link that will direct users from the GEOhio Portal to your services.
If you offer access to spatial data for download you can provide a link that will direct users from the GEOhio Portal to your website or download page.
If you do not provide online access to your data and would prefer GIS users contact you directly the GEOhio Survey can provide access to only your preferred point of contact.
Regardless of the mechanism you employ for sharing data, participating in the GEOhio Survey can provide a broader group of GIS users with access to your spatial information in order to ensure that the data you maintain is utilized to the fullest extent possible. The level of detail you provide and the information you choose to share is up to you. As with the previous GIS Profile Survey, participation in the GEOhio Survey is voluntary and information provided through the survey will be used by the OGRIP Council to help guide the development of statewide spatial data assets of benefit to all GIS users.Next Steps
